ABOUT THE PARK

Acreage: 19.4

HISTORY

The playfield was originally named “Walla Walla” named for an Indian tribe in SE Washington, which means “place of many waters (streams)”. In 1923 the Park Board named the Playfield after the school which was named to honor James A. Garfield, the 20th U.S. President in 1881.

(Edited from the files of Don Sherwood, 1916-1981, Park Historian.)
