About OIROffice of Intergovernmental Relations Main Number: Welcome to the Office of Intergovernmental Relations' (OIR) Web Site OIR staff are the City of Seattle's lobbyists and liaisons to other governments, promoting policy changes, funding and cooperation to help achieve the priorities of our elected officials in order to improve the quality of life for the people of Seattle. On our website you will find information about our state legislative agenda, our 21 sister cities programs, our regional, federal, and international relationships, as well as links to other levels of government and organizations. We hope you will find this information useful. Emelie East, Director OIR's Mission OIR assists the Mayor, City Council and all City departments with Seattle's external governmental relationships and promotes the interests of the City of Seattle with local, regional, state, federal and international officials, agencies and organizations. How OIR Addresses the Mayor's Priorities: Get Seattle Moving People and freight must move into and through Seattle with speed and ease. In order to ensure that happens, we work toward significant transportation solutions. This includes securing funding for local transportation needs in order to preserve, repair and improve our local roads. Our central area of focus is securing state and federal funding necessary to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct and seawall with a tunnel. We also advocate for funding for mass transit and other alternative transportation solutions. Keep Our Neighborhoods Safe Seattle is working to become the most prepared city in the country. We assist in the City's overall Homeland Security strategy and on other projects, including enhancing the safety of our community by strengthening gun control. Create Jobs and Opportunity For All Seattle is the economic engine of the region, and we work to secure state and federal support for investments that create jobs in neighborhoods across the city. We also enhance Seattle 's participation in trade missions and work with incoming international delegations to maximize economic, cultural and educational opportunities for Seattle residents. Build Strong Families and Healthy Communities We advocate for stable regional, state and federal funding of health and human services and are working to ensure a strong a regional network that supports families and children. We also work to end homelessness in Seattle by supporting increased funding for housing and support services, including mental health and substance abuse treatment. Content contact: Joe Hooks |
