Government access channel nets 3 first-place honors
SEATTLE — TVSea, Seattle’s municipal cable channel, picked up three
first-place awards in the Alliance for Community Media’s "Hometown Video
Festival," the largest and longest running video festival for local cable programming
in the northern hemisphere. One additional entry received an honorable mention award.
Judges reviewed nearly 1,500 entries.
Noncommercial programs produced for public, educational and governmental access
channels are eligible. The following programs Seattle entered received awards:
- Longfellow Creek, An Urban Legacy (first place, documentary profile category).
This
video, co-produced with Seattle Public Utilities, is the first in a series of videos
examining Seattle’s Urban Creeks Legacy project, which highlight urban creek
restoration in Seattle.
At Their Fingertips (first place, informational category). This program focuses on
deaf Seattle citizens who are losing their vision.
TVSea Book Talk program (first place, talk show category). TVSea initiated the
"Book Talk" series this year with Center for the Book Director Nancy Pearl and
host Sharon Griggins. The particular program which won this national award featured Nancy,
Sharon and two young people discussing the Harry Potter series books and the book "Holes."
Voices of the WTO (honorable mention, documentary category). This documentary offers
an overview of the WTO ministerial conference, focusing on the issues rather than the
aftermath. It features "on-the-scene" interviews with WTO delegates and
protestors.
The awards will be presented at the Alliance’s annual conference, to be held July
12 through 15 in Tucson, Ariz.
