Date of Cleanup: October 21, 2006
On Saturday,
October 21, 2006, on behalf of Mayor Greg Nickels, Acting Department of Neighborhoods
Director Bernie Matsuno, Deputy Superintendent of Parks & Recreation B.J.
Brooks and SPU Assistant Director Sharon White led more than one hundred (100)
volunteers as they removed invasive plants and cleaned Kinnear Park and surrounding
areas. Matsuno, Brooks and White also planted a tree on behalf of the Mayor.
Mayor Nickels created the Clean & Green program shortly after taking
office in 2002. The Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle City Light,
Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle
Police Department, the Department of Corrections, King County Juvenile
work teams and Seattle Public Utilities assist in the effort each month.
Cleanup Activities:
- 10,660 lbs clean and green removed
- 2,760 lbs encampment debris removed
- 5 yards bulk mulch spread
- Sourwood tree planted
- DAJD picked up more than 100 lbs of litter
