Information Sign for Magnuson Community Garden
Final
Report October 21, 2001
A two-sided sign kiosk was placed at the southwest end of the proposed Magnuson Community Garden site by the Parks Department for garden use. Wilson Sign company created a signboard for the south side of the sign kiosk. It was installed on October 19, 2001. The signboard on the north side of the kiosk has been designed and will be painted by volunteers. Physical Description of Information Sign: The Sand Point Magnuson Park Division donated an unused wood and metal sign kiosk left from the days of the former Navy base. It was moved from the dog run area to the southern edge of the community garden site near the orchard on the site map. The signage area is 11'7" Wide, 5'4" height. The sign kiosk has two sides and is covered by a roof. Information about the project was placed on the south side of the kiosk. The north side of the sign is designated for changing information such as notices, work party schedules, and brochures. Its surface has slots in which placards can be inserted. Information on the Sign: The purpose of the sign is to educate and inform the neighborhood about the community garden project currently underway. The south signboard displays a magnified copy of Barker Landscape Architects design drawing, a list of the garden’s components, the project mission, facts about the garden project, and contacts for the project. An acknowledgement of the signs funding source was placed in the lower right corner. Information on the participating organizations, fund raising, information how to participate, work party schedules, notices, and flyers will be posted on the north side of the sign kiosk. Expenditure Reporting: The Community Outreach award was $750. Wilson Sign Company, 1406 NW 53rd St, was selected to make the sign board according to draft provided by the Magnuson Community Garden working group. The quotation received from Wilson for the sign was $947.65 with tax. The company agreed to do the sign for $700 and donated the difference. The remaining $50 budgeted for the project has been allocated in a slightly different manner than in the original proposal. It has been used to cover the cost of scanning ($20.75 at Kinkos) the design drawing to make a digital image; two information boxes from Reality Solutions 3435 4th Ave S @ $12.00/box; and the remaining funds have been applied to purchase cans of Rustoleum to paint the metal signboard on the north side of the sign. A third information box was donated by a real estate agent. |
