Customer Alert: Beware of Phone Scams
In the past few days several City Light customers have been the targets of phone scams. The scam callers say they are City Light employees, claim there is a problem with payment of the customer's bill, and demand credit card information to resolve the matter. City Light reminds all customers:
- City Light sends at least two written warnings to customers before disconnecting power for non-payment.
- Seattle City Light never asks customers over the telephone for credit card information to pay their bills.
- Seattle City Light does not call customers on weekends.
If a customer believes he or she has been contacted by a con artist, they should report the incident to Seattle Police (206) 625-5011. Read the press release.
Public Comments on Carrasco Reconfirmation

City Light Makes it Easy to Recycle Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL's)
To help customers dispose of CFL's properly, City Light has set up two stations that accept used CFL's free of charge. City Light reminds all customers that CFL's contain small amounts of mercury - about enough to cover the head of a pin - and therefore need to be kept out of our landfills and recycled in a facility that can recover and re-use this substance. U.S. Forest Service Award
At a meeting on April 21st, the U.S. Forest Service presented an award to the City Council and Seattle City Light acknowledging the contribution of the City and the utility to conservation of the Skagit River. This acknowledgment is part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, which is administered by the U.S. Forest Service. The Skagit Wild and Scenic River was designated in 1978 and includes nearly 160 miles of the Skagit and its tributaries---the Sauk, Suiattle, and Cascade rivers. The U.S. Forest Service acknowledged the specific contributions of the City's Endangered Species Act Early Action Program and Seattle City Light's Skagit Project Settlement Agreement, as well as the many hours of time devoted by Seattle City Light staff to the annual Skagit River Cleanup.
Take Me Out to the Carbon-neutral Ballgame
 Seattle City Light was proud to support the Seattle Mariners in hosting Major League Baseball's first carbon-neutral game on Earth Day, April 22. As a City Light customer, the Mariners already receive carbon-neutral electricity. City Light is the only large utility in the country to fully offset its greenhouse gas emissions. The Mariners purchased new, renewable energy credits through City Light's Green Up program for that day's energy use and purchased carbon offsets for all the team's travel and operations that day. Seattle City Light staffed a booth at Safeco Field to share information about Green Up as part of the city's Climate Action Now initiative to fight global warming.
