Immigrants and RefugeesImmigrants and refugees face many challenges upon arrival in the United States, including learning a new language, getting a driver’s license, and navigating complex health care, public school and government systems. While all of the human services provided and funded by local agencies and governments are available to immigrants and refugees, the Seattle Human Services Department funds services specifically for immigrants and refugees in several areas:
We are partners with many agencies across the city to provide culturally relevant assistance to immigrant and refugee families, and to address the special needs and challenges faced by this community. In addition, we are participating in Mayor Nickels’ Immigrants and Refugees Initiative, which aims to strengthen how City government serves immigrant and refugee communities living in Seattle.
