City Green Building
Built Green

Built Green™ is a non-profit, residential green building program developed by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.  While contractors in Seattle already build to some of the toughest energy, air quality, stormwater management, and water efficiency standards in the nation, Built Green goes beyond these standards.  Built Green promotes best known practices and is responsive to regional environmental issues to give homeowners added value and peace of mind.

The Built Green program uses a checklist with design strategies for architects and actions a builder can take to make a home healthier, more efficient, and easier on the environment.  The checklist topics include building to green codes and regulations, site and water considerations, energy efficiency, health and indoor air quality, materials efficiency, and promoting environmentally friendly homeowner operations and maintenance.  Points for the checklist items are tallied to designate the level of performance achieved by the home, from one to five stars.  The more points attained, the better a home’s overall environmental and health performance.

New Construction
The Built Green homebuilder self-certification checklist provides a builder with hundreds of specific actions to increase the environmental performance of a home. Encourage your builder to use Built Green, or if you’re a builder, consider using Built Green for its design benefit and market advantage.

Remodeling
The Built Green remodeler self-certification checklist provides a similar function for renovations and additions to existing homes.
